38th over: Ireland 179-4 (Porterfield 106, Wilson 21)
Porterfield makes his century - it was a close run thing, as he overhits a drive down the ground, but it squirms past Rahat’s hands, and misses the stumps at the non-striker’s end! The captain takes two to complete his century. And you have to say that’s magnificent.
Porterfield, perhaps relaxing a touch with big-hitter Kevin O’Brien next up, drives a wide, full ball beyond deep cover for four. Ireland are getting there, slowly but surely.
37th over: Ireland 171-4 (Porterfield 99, Wilson 20)
Porterfield sneaks a single off his pads, edging ever closer to the ton, before Wilson chases an unlikely single, and is caught in no man’s land. Sohail fields his own delivery, but misses the stumps! That was a chance. Wilson makes him pay, steering a poor ball over point for four.
36th over: Ireland 162-4 (Porterfield 96, Wilson 14)
Rahat has generally kept his deliveries short or just on a length, and this over is no different. Wilson is able to get a read on his angled deliveries, and snaffles four runs from the over, along with a wide, as Rahat looks for an edge, but overcooks the delivery just a touch.
35th over: Ireland 156-4 (Porterfield 94, Wilson 11)
Two dot balls, then Wilson pushes a flighted Afridi delivery to deep cover for one. A single for Porterfield, care of a drive to long on, but that’s Ireland’s lot, as Afridi continues with his tight lines. Time for the Irish to make a move - they call for the powerplay.
34th over: Ireland 154-4 (Porterfield 93, Wilson 10)
Wilson rotates the strike with a single, before Porterfield opens up, playing Sohail through mid-off for a much-needed four. He’s closing in on the century now - time for a drinks break.
Here’s a thing (West Indies fans - look away now).
33rd over: Ireland 146-4 (Porterfield 88, Wilson 8)
Sarfraz has a quiet word with Afridi about his speed, but his deliberate style is still working - it’s been such an intriguing battle between the bowler and Porterfield. Just three from the over, but Ireland can still see 250 as a reasonable target. Will it be enough? It’ll be close.
32nd over: Ireland 143-4 (Porterfield 87, Wilson 6)
Haris Sohail comes in, sending down a series of short balls that yield five singles. Ireland, and particularly Porterfield, have had to change tack, but the captain has kept scoring, moving from 50 in the 16th over to 87 in the 32nd.
31st over: Ireland 138-4 (Porterfield 85, Wilson 3)
Just two from the over, a single each, as Wahab keeps the pressure on. Pakistan, and in particular Rahat, may have been too conservative, stopping short of a catch in order to prevent the boundary. Wickets are still the key, surely?
30th over: Ireland 136-4 (Porterfield 84, Wilson 2)
Gary Wilson comes in, and punches a straight one past deep cover for two. Porterfield needs someone who can stick with him, or there’ll be some angry glances from the captain in the interval.
WICKET! Balbirnie c Afridi b Sohail 17 (Ireland 134-4)
Pakistan change up the bowling after that conservative spell, and despite Porterfield taking three thanks to another misfield, it soon pays dividends. The misfield puts Balbirnie on strike, and he becomes the latest partner of Porterfield to surrender his wicket, wafting a risible sweep attempt straight to Afridi.
29th over: Ireland 129-3 (Porterfield 80, Balbirnie 17)
Wahab maintains Pakistan’s momentum with the ball, firing down four dot balls at Balbirnie, before the batsmen nurdle a single each. Slow progress for Ireland at the moment.28th over: Ireland 127-3 (Porterfield 79, Balbirnie 16)
Afridi has been key to slowing Irish progress, switching his line and length to rob Porterfield and Balbirnie of any rhythm. They still sneak three runs from the over, with Balbirnie, who has looked composed so far, taking two singles with push shots to long on.
